100 Years of Civil Engineering
For over 100 years, our focus at Wolverine Engineers and Surveyors, Inc. (Wolverine) has been on designing successful public projects for Michigan’s communities. Wolverine Engineering Company was founded in Mason, Michigan in 1919 by a group of Michigan State University graduates who named the company after our state animal.
At this time, Wolverine specialized in offering Civil Engineering and concrete products including burial vaults, curb stops, and small local bridges. In 1979, we moved to our current Mason location where in 1980, Wolverine Engineers and Surveyors, Inc. was incorporated in the State of Michigan. We continue to thrive by providing excellent civil engineering solutions to our many loyal clients.
What Sets Us Apart?
Wolverine is a unique, full-service civil engineering company also offering surveying, landscape architecture, geotechnical engineering, and construction observation services. Wolverine enjoys our current position within Michigan as a mid-size firm with a close-knit group of long-term clients with most of our municipal client relationships spanning decades.
We have no desire to become a firm with hundreds of employees with multiple, nationwide offices. On the contrary, we look at each opportunity closely to determine if the relationship is a good match and that we’d be able to provide a service that is mutually beneficial to both the Owner and Wolverine. We believe this reinforces our reputation as a truly exceptional engineering firm. Wolverine has an impeccable safety record with a 0.92 EMR and a 0.0 TRIR and proudly maintains an A rating with all our clients on ISNetworld.
Specialized Team Members
Our team is not common to most engineering firms because it is made up of staff that have many years of experience in every facet of a civil engineering project including budgeting, planning, design, estimating, bidding, and construction from both sides of the table. Our team consists of professional engineers; geotechnical and soils consultants; former contractor project managers and estimators from the Lansing area; former Municipal Design Professionals; and MDOT certified inspectors and testing technicians. Our team genuinely enjoys what we do.

Okemos Road Camelback Bridge
Designed and Built by Wolverine in 1924
One of only two known surviving examples of concrete girder camelback bridges in Michigan with sidewalks built as an integral part of the original structure.
This was unusual because most of these bridges were constructed in rural areas where sidewalks were not needed.
